5.12               WORKPLACE HEALTH AND SAFETY

POLICY

 

Bayside Family Day Care  is committed to ensuring the highest level of Workplace Health, Safety and Welfare.

 

PROCEDURE

Management:

To achieve a safe working environment it is our policy that the Bayside Family Day Care service:

 

·         Is committed to securing the highest level of health, safety, and welfare in accordance with the relevant  

          legislation.

·         Supports the development and maintenance of appropriate health, safety and rehabilitation programs.

·         Shall ensure that appropriate information, finance, facilities, resources and training are available.

 Management also:

·         Is committed to workplace safety and rehabilitation of all staff & Carers.

·         Shall ensure that adequate job training and all necessary WHS and rehabilitation information is provided to

          enable staff & Carers to perform their tasks in a safe and healthy manner.

·         Shall ensure that all accidents, near misses and work-related illness are recorded &/or reported, examined for

          trends and patterns of frequency and type.

·         Is expected to undertake regular workplace health, safety and rehabilitation program reviews.

·         Shall facilitate a supportive work environment for injured staff & Carers.

 

The Workplace Health and Safety Representatives:

·         Actively work in conjunction with management to make recommendations to improve health and safety in

          the workplace.

·         Meets regularly with management to resolve issues and disputes in a timely manner.

  

 Staff and Carers:

·         Are expected to willingly cooperate to maintain a safe and healthy working environment and encourage

          other employees and carers to follow safe work practices.

·         Will immediately notify the Coordination Unit of any accident or incident or any other matter, which may  

          affect the health, and safety of any person within the service. The Manager will be notified of the incident by

         the Coordination Unit immediately so that the required reporting procedure to the licensing body and insurer

          can be enacted immediately.

 

Visitors and contractors:

·         Are expected to comply with the safety standards of the service.

 

 Procedure for Identifying and Rectifying OH&S Risks

 

In Scheme Facilities:

  • The Occupational Health & Safety Officer will perform regular audits of the schemes facilities and deliver a report identifying any OH&S risks
  • The risks will be addressed immediately and rectified
  • A follow-up safety inspection will occur within one week

 

In Carers Homes:

  • The Annual Safety Audit will be carried out on the Carers home facilities and any OH&S risks will be identified
  • The risks will be addressed immediately and rectified
  • A follow-up safety inspection will occur within one week

 

On Excursions:

  • Excursions must be carried out in a safe manner ensuring that potential risks to children have been identified in advance and a risk management plan is in place to address and control any potential risks to children
